Ingredients
Insect Olfactory Disruption and Behavioural Repellences
Citronella, eucalyptus radiata, and lemongrass oils contain monoterpenes and aldehydes (citronellal, geraniol, citronellol, and eucalyptol) that interfere with mosquito olfactory receptors (ORNs), disrupting their ability to detect human skin odours.
Peppermint and cedarwood oils emit volatile organic compounds that inhibit the attraction of mosquitoes to carbon dioxide and lactic acid exhalation.
Neurotoxic Effects on Mosquitoes
Tea tree and frankincense oils contain terpinen-4-ol and boswellic acids, which act as mild neurotoxic agents to insects, reducing their ability to locate and land on skin.
Lemongrass oil (citral) and peppermint oil (menthol) disrupt the central nervous system (CNS) of mosquitoes, inhibiting their movement and feeding behaviour.
Anti-Inflammatory and Anti-Pruritic Effects
Lavender and frankincense oils contain linalool and boswellic acids, which inhibit the release of histamine and pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β), reducing itching, redness, and swelling from insect bites.
Tea tree and eucalyptus radiata oils possess antiseptic and wound-healing properties, preventing infection from excessive scratching.
Skin Barrier Protection and Hydration
Olive oil (rich in squalene and polyphenols) enhances skin barrier integrity, preventing dehydration and maintaining dermal health.
Lavender and cedarwood oils promote wound healing and skin repair, reducing irritation from insect exposure.
